Readings & Workshops
In addition to writing stories for kids of all ages, Don Sawyer likes nothing better than to read them - and he has done that. From Newfoundland and the Northwest Territories to Dauphin Island in Alabama, Don has brought his books to dozens of classrooms and hundreds of kids.
Do the kids enjoy the readings? Here is a comment from Mindy, a fifth grade teacher at Toronto’s Northlea Elementary & Middle School: “The kids were engaged and we learned a lot about the personal journey of an author. It was a fantastic experience... The kids love your stories. They really are truly laugh-out-loud funny!”

ReadingsThere is nothing more fun for a reader than to hear a story read by the author -- and then have a chance to explore the writing and writing process live. And it may be even more fun for the writer!
Because Don has books in so many genres, he has read to individual primary classrooms, entire elementary schools, middle and high school English classes, and adult education students. |
Virtual Classroom VisitsCan't afford to bring a live author into your classroom? Teaching in a remote part of the world? No problem.
Don has pioneered the use of Skype readings and has conducted successful readings and workshops with groups of First Nations adult readers in northern Canada, elementary school kids in Newfoundland, and even engineering students at Western Ontario University. Writing WorkshopsBesides writing his own books, Don has worked as an English teacher in public schools, First Nations communities, and adult education classrooms. He has made instructional videos on the writing process and written many manuals and article on the teaching of writing to learners of different backgrounds and ages.
Don also provides in-class writing workshops lasting from a half-day to an entire week. Using an entertaining, engaging approach with numerous hands-on activities, students in his workshops develop their writing skills while having fun. |
